Events:
“I believe that our motto “We Live for Each Other”, expresses the true spirit of fraternity; and that by living this motto my life will be enriched by true friendships.”
In Alpha Delta Pi, sisterhood is a way of life. As sorority sisters, we share a unique bond of friendship that cannot be duplicated anywhere else in the world. This bond spans not only the Beta Epsilon chapter, but is shared by all Alpha, Delta, and Pi members of every chapter internationally. Alpha Delta Pi is not four years, but for life.
At Beta Epsilon, we let our motto, “We Live for Each Other,” and our sacred bond of sisterhood guide our daily actions. We reinforce the importance of our sisterhood with many special events each year. These events range from our annual chapter retreat, which we hosted on the Saluda River this year, to weekly gatherings to watch our favorite TV shows like “Glee” and “Gossip Girl,” to once yearly special events like a Valentine’s Day tea party, complete with cupcake decorating,
or renting out an entire theater for a midnight movie release party.
Each year, we host two special weeks to recognize sisterhood in Alpha Delta Pi: Diamond Days
and Sisterhood Week. Each fall sees Diamond Days, a week during which we distinguish our new members, preparing them for initiation with events like dinner at the chapter house and visits with notable Pi members. In the spring, we host our annual Sisterhood Week. During this week, we seek to make our sisterhood known on campus as well as to strengthen sisterhood within our chapter.
Sisterhood truly is central to membership in Alpha Delta Pi, and we look forward to sharing this special bond with new members for years to come.
Achievements:
The Beta Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi has been the recipient of the Maxine Blake Golden Lion Award for the past seven years! This award, present by the Alpha Delta Pi International Organization, is the highest honor a chapter may receive. It is presented to chapters that excel in
all areas of chapter operations and programming for a minimum period of six years. Beta Epsilon was one of 13 chapters in the nation to receive this award. During the 2011 Grand Convention we also won awards for excellence in Scholarship, Philanthropy, Alpha Education, The Adelphean, Recruitment, Finance, Panhellenic, and Total Membership Education. Additionally, our chapter received the Diamond 4 Point Award.
On campus Alpha Delta Pi holds the highest Greek Grade Point Average of a 3.56. We have earned the top GPA of all South Carolina Greek Chapters 14 out of the past 16 semesters! USC’s Office of Greek Life awarded the Beta Epsilon Chapter the Gold Chapter of Excellence Award, for achievement in philanthropy, service, leadership, involvement, and scholarship. Alpha Delta Pi was one of four chapters given this award at USC! Alpha Delta Pi has won homecoming for the past two years in a row. The chapter has also begun to garner the reputation as the best dancing sorority on campus. We have won Spurs & Struts, the homecoming dance competition, for the past two years in a row, and Air Band, Sigma Chi’s Derby Days Dance Event this past spring.
Academics:
We within the Beta Epsilon chapter at the University of South Carolina, take pride in our academic success! Not only have we ranked #1 in grades within Greek Life out of the past 14/16 semesters, but last semester we beat our own personal best of maintaining a cumulative chapter grade point average of a 3.58!! In Beta Epsilon, we realize that our academia is our top priority, afterall, it is the reason we are enrolled within the University. Our Scholarship program within our chapter reaches
to not only those whom excel in their academics, but also positively motivates those who do not particularly like to study. Incentives are given throughout the semester to recognize hard work and encourage such behavior.
Last Spring, 150 girls earned a 3.5 grade point average or higher, and 44 of those earned perfect 4.0’s. This was no easy feat, and each girl who earned such, received rewards for doing so.
Sisters who earned 3.5’s or better were given $5 gift cards to Moe’s, and sisters who earned the perfect 4.0 were given a free movie pass to a Regal Cinemas Movie Theatre.
Each week, before our chapter meetings, sisters have the opportunity to place their name in the weekly drawing if they got an ‘A’ on a task within the week. We call this award “Hey Hey, Got an A!” The Scholarship Chair draws the lucky winner during chapter and the winner receives a free movie ticket. The Scholarship Chair also gives another weekly recognition during chapter called
“No Lion, I’m Tryin”. Earning an A for the week is not required for this award. This award is
normally given to two sisters each week who have exerted extreme efforts towards their schoolwork. The Scholarship Chair can nominate the two girls herself, but also takes suggestions from sisters within the chapter. The winners of the “No Lion, I’m Tryin” award receive movie tickets as well.
Those members who do not particularly enjoy studying and that do not meet our minimum grade point average requirements (2.7 semesterly and 2.9 cumulatively) have an individual meeting with the scholarship chair to evaluate and assess the sister’s academic situation and provide help and encouragement to get them back on the right track. The Scholarship Chair has many resources,
both on campus, and off campus that can help sisters that do not meet the minimum requirements. The meetings are completely confidential and are purely to help and to provide encouragement. Rewards to these girls are given as well. This semester a free manicure and pedicure at USC Nails was given to the sister who showed the most improvement.
During exam week, the Scholarship Chair hosted a “Celebration of Success” to serve as both a celebration of all the academic success that each member accomplished over the semester, and
as an exam break. 20 dozen hot and fresh Krispy Kreme doughnuts were served with coffee as a celebratory treat for all sisters. Door prizes of movie tickets and a manicure and pedicure were given away as well.
In Beta Epsilon, we uphold high standards, especially in academia. We try and help to enrich all areas within our sisters’ lives; academic, social, mental, and physical well-being. In Beta Epsilon, truly, “We Live For Each Other.”
